Admission of Transfer Applicants to this/these majors is competitive and for comparative purposes, applications are scored in four categories with different weights for each.
Section One: specific coursework for applicants to this/these majors
Courses listed below are important in applying to this/these majors and maximize (but not guarantee) your chance of selection by taking the number of desired units in each of the areas.
Courses in bold are required for selection to this/these majors. Fall Quarter applicants must complete these units by the Spring, not Summer, preceding their initial enrollment.
Courses in brackets are mandated by the CSU and the campus. Students must earn a ‘C’ or better in these subjects by the time of transfer. Fall Quarter applicants must do so by the Spring, not Summer, preceding their initial enrollment.
Course Semester Units [English Composition]
3 [Speech] 3 Physics (Calculus-based) 9 required, 12 desired Chemistry 4 required, 5 desired [Analytical Geom./Calculus/Diff. Eqs.] 12 required, 15 desired Statics 3 Graphics 3 Surveying/Materials Engineering 3 required, 6 desired
Section Two: General Education (GE) or IGETC completion
The College of Engineering does not heavily weigh General Education or IGETC completion in the selection process for admission. Emphasis is given to the coursework in Section One (including English Composition and Speech). Additional General Education coursework completed prior to transfer can result in fewer courses needed for degree requirement once enrolled at Cal Poly.
Section Three: GPA
Section Four: Work Experience and Extra-Curricular Activity participation
The information is taken from these four questions:
- Average number of hours worked per week over the most recent 12 months.
- Was more than 25% of your work related to your Cal Poly choice of major? (yes or no)
- Average number of hours per week involved in community service, arts, clubs, and other extra-curricular activities during the last 12 months.
- Do you hold or have you held any leadership positions in the activities from question #3? (an example: club president)
The information for all four sections comes from the supplemental information obtained by the CSUMENTOR online application.
