'WU to W' Grade
Change Appeal
The Cal Poly
Academic Senate passed a Resolution (AS 449-95) which allows a student
to appeal to have one "WU" grade changed to a grade of "W,"
with the approval of the course instructor. The "W"
(Withdrawal) grade does not negatively impact the student's GPA.
Since a "WU" grade has the same effect as an "F", this policy allows
a one time only relief from the drastic effects on the GPA. Prior
to Fall 2002 term, the "WU" was referenced as a "U".
Provisions
for the appeal are as follows:
- Only one "WU" (or "U") may be changed to a "W" throughout
the student's entire Cal Poly career.
- Student must be eligible to enroll at Cal Poly.
- All appropriate signatures must be on the form.
- Receipt of $20.00 payment made at the State Cashier must accompany
the form.
REQUIRED
SIGNATURES
If submitting
the completed 'WU to W' petition prior to the end of the 7th week
of the term following the term in which the "WU" (or "U")
was assigned, the instructor's signature is required. If submitting
the petition after the end of the 7th week of that following term,
the instructor's signature is required along with the signatures
of the department head and dean of the course.
